Your last chance on the battlefield! This month’s design challenge is all about finality counters. Bring creatures back, but not forever. Added on top is a whole lot of Universes Beyond-style top down flavor! Tune in to hear about all the twists our designers found for this still-new mechanic.

UB: Talky Tina, a creepy doll from The Twilight Zone. The concept is a bit of a stretch — I’m afraid I fell in love with the mechanical design before trying to flavor it.
UW: Finalizer Construct moves hard in a different direction. It’s not a sweet little toy, it’s part of an army of killer robots.

A Memory Called Empire‘s own Mahit Dzmare! in this case she can make any creature in magic her yskandr-imago.

From the surprisingly well-received and not at all controversial set MTG Universes Beyond: Christian Gnosticism I present Zachariel, Redemption and the Through the Omenpaths digital equivalent, Liesa, Reformed Archangel (Surprisingly, the digital licensing rights were just too expensive to bring it to Arena.)

I just really like the idea of a card that’s both Killer and Survivor, but with the same mechanics. Up to y’all how well that worked. Ignored the different genres bonus point

Fortuneteller Baba from the Dragonball franchise was the perfect pick for this challenge, since she has the ability to bring someone back from the dead for one day. Weird Wanda granting a dying person one more day feels like the opposite in some ways.

Jack Wolcott from the Wayward children series is an apprentice to a mad scientist of the Moors. Through science they can reverse even death, but once someone has been brought back once, there is no certainty they will come back again.
Dolovan, an Apprentice to the famed Strixhaven teacher, followed her off world to dominaria and learn her style of life magic.
Training (Whenever this creature attacks with another creature with greater power, put a +1/+1 counter on this creature.)

UB: The sweepers from the City, a very dystopian world. I could give a blurb about what role these guys play in that dystopia. But I’d rather you just look at how annoying it is to kill. This magic rendition is actually rather tame as to how annoying they usually are to finish off, I promise.
UW: Failed Specimen is meant to play off of the “failed summoning” trope sometimes seen in fiction, which is a more fantasy-esque way of representing this.

This card is from the prolific mil-fi space opera series Expeditionary Force by Craig Alanson. The series follows Joe Bishop, a young American soldier, and Skippy, a beer-can-shaped, ancient, and incredibly powerful AI, as they narrowly escape ever escalating cliffhangers.
Karn’s plot is about restoring the Weatherlight after it got Phyrexianized in DMU.

Spongebob and Patrick, Paradox is in reference to the season 7 episode called Back to the Past. In that episode they repeatedly went back in time to when they arrived thus creating many versions of themselves. The artifacts it is bringing back is in reference to the many copies of the time machine that they arrived in.
The Great Amassing Reef is a reef around the waters of Tolarian Acadamey during the Time Spiral Crisis. Due to this it is caught in a time loop with itself while bringing with it artifacts from the now destroyed Acadamey that were scattered and shattered into its depths.
